Arundel Butchers
With the increase in the
amount of supermarkets in every town and village and then in recent years the increase
in the size of those stores, it is easy to slip into the habit of buying everything
you need for your household shopping all in one place rather than search for
higher quality in several shops.
Lets be honest though, take
the butcher counter for a start, in may be nice the have all the meat placed
out nicely for you to make your selection from and tell me if I’m wrong, but on
the occasion you have asked advice from the young man serving there; he has
very little knowledge doesn’t he, not a clue.
When we want something
special we pop up to Arundel Butchers where you will find as stated on the sign
above the shop a ‘Traditional Butchers’ shop and Matthew behind that counter, will
be able to help you with your special requests. He is a skilled butcher who
knows exactly what he is talking about from his many years experience there. We
go there as often as we can and probably every other week, it is to buy the superb
venison they acquire locally, I think Matthew said the last fillet of Venison
we bought there came from the Goodwood estate less than ten miles away. Certainly
if you run through the woods as often as we do you will know that there is no
shortage of deer popping about. They keep all sorts of game as well as standard
range of meats as well as an assortment of their own shop made sausages, we
like the pork and leek. We call in a couple of times per week and they are most
helpful and pleasant.
This week on the notice
board outside the shop they offered:
Pheasant £5.00
Wood Pigeons £2.99
Partridges £3.99
On the snack board they
offered:
Game pie slices £3.00
Pork Pies and Sausage rolls
£1.00 each.
This gem of a butcher shop
is easily found at the foot of the hill in High Street, Arundel, it faces out to
the war memorial and if you have a word with the ‘Parking Angel’ you may be
lucky enough to park right outside the door.
