This morning started with
the usual 6.30 am swim session at Freedom Leisure in Littlehampton Pool on Sea Road. The
schedule for Lane 1 and 2 can be found at the bottom on this page. The usual
suspects were swimming in Lane 1 and were all working hard as they nearly
always do, in what is after all a pre work day exercise block for all of them.
In Lane 2 There were three
women today and because I am the slowest, I swam third though I can keep up
with the second woman who is normally the lead woman. Today’s lead woman has
only recently started joining us because the Lane 1 work-out is too serious
sometimes. Both of my friends left the pool at 7.10 am to get to work.
I carried on to the end of
the schedule on my own.
Steve and I had to beetle
off to Arundel where we were meeting the woman who I am going to call the
driving force of the team of mature students from Brighton Film
School who are still
working on the short motivational documentary film for their course work.
Having shown Kathy Azopardi
all the way around our Wednesday 5km run route yesterday, when the highlight of
the afternoon for all of us was that we saw a Kingfisher and all got seriously
excited to the point that we all abandoned to project in hand to try to
photograph the little beauty, who entertained us with a series of moves that
followed a; Pose, Dive, Fly, Eat pattern that was repeated three times in
fairly short order, and quite amazing
since neither Steve or I have never seen one there before, or for that matter any
where near our local to home patch.
For other bird watchers information this
was just off Mill Road
in Arundel by the old Castle Dairy. This being, when you explain it not so
silly since within half a mile there is the River Arun, Arundel Castle moat as
well as the Mill stream at the Dairy area, all good and watery and sounding
like good spot for the Kingfisher that
has previously been seen at the equally nearby Wetlands Centre.
So yesterdays lap of the run
course was research today’s project which was to film us running this run that
we have been training on this winter since we entered the Arundel Triathlon the
date for which is July 16th this year and is one lap of two laps in
the event where it becomes a 10km run course.
Proving herself to be a very
useful runner, and confirming my advice to her that she should try a triathlon
herself since she is already a strong biker, albeit on a Brompton Bike, how
much easier could it be on a racing bike for her. We can work on her swimming
that is at present the discipline requiring just a little bit of work to match
her running and biking ability.
This brings me to point out
that she did the whole of the 5km course this morning with a back pack
containing two camera’s and tripod. Of course it was a stop and start effort to
get almost all of to the run route on film. She; running on to position herself
for the next shot each time, as we waited for a wave and then brought up the
rear.
The whole job took two hours
including the setting up of shots and gathering of all the equipment after each
of piece of filming! Steve and I were seriously impressed with the woman, who
on this day was filling the post of Director, Camera operator, Best Boy, Grip
and all those other jobs that show up on the film credits.
What a hard worker she is,
and so much determination to get the best possible result out of the morning,
without inconveniencing her subjects too much, which did seem to be a concern
to her along with all the rest of her tasks. Somebody in the film world will get
a great deal when they employ her at the conclusion of her course in Brighton.
Our next session will be on
the bikes Friday this week when I hope for her sake that the other students
will be around too. We still found it to be a good work out, since we made an
effort to run a bit faster and work hard on the hill stretches.
The special wild life
spotting for today was a Mandarin Duck that is a very showy piece indeed. Again
right on that 5km run course but in the moat beneath the great castle
battlements. Another gem.
