The little sea front Windmill
Cinema in Littlehampton has had a few face lifts in its time and has been used for
a variety of entertainments. My parents remember when it was the local ice rink
years ago, before the war. All sorts of
functions are held there now; concerts, live theatre and films, and is used
during the town carnival and the Bonfire night celebrations. The last refurbishing
raised the venue up considerably into a quaint little Art House cinema, from
the scruffy uncomfortable auditorium it was for as long as I can remember.
The posh royal blue seats
now gradually rise up toward the back, so that it is easier to see without
being directly behind somebody’s head. Because of the town campaign, not to let
the place close down, it has a volunteer staff of people who mostly look to be
about my age.
The programmes vary and as
well as the new blockbuster movies, there are also the special showings of
plays, ballet and opera, all filmed live and sent off around the world by the
magic of modern technology.
During the Easter holidays,
a number of children’s films could be seen. The film that proved most
successful during its showing that last two week’s was to one Steve and I went
to see there yesterday. Eddie The Eagle. We had been told by a number of friends that
is was a super film. We were surprised that the reports were not exaggerated.
It was really good, a great motivational story about following your dream, no
matter how many people try to put you down, the sound message that could not be
missed was, that when you know where you want to go and what you want to do,
you must never give up. What a great message.
Eddie the Eagle
Couldn’t hold you back when
you were sure
Conviction of what you
wanted from life
A vision to compete in the
Olympics games
Every set back you would bravely
endure
You taught a lesson that
should be learnt
Make your mind up and
follow right through
With the odds stacked firmly
against you
Even as all your bridges
by doubters burned
Push on regardless to follow
your dream
Then never let lesser men
put you down
Stick to your guns and
maintain your aim
Fix your sights on the end
game scheme
Courage ignored the face
of misplaced mirth
You hung on to what you
knew was so right
Looking mockery square in its
ugly face
Then to the world you
proved your worth
