Window in Your Head

You’re talking with friends
Enjoying a chat over coffee or tea
Each talking over the other
Butting in, interrupting
In the strange way
That good friend’s always do
And no need to get cross
You have so much to share
All wanting to say something
Wanting to tell their news
You chime in again
With that story
That you have thought of
What you wanted to say
But neglected to
The joke you want to crack
Loving each other because
The chat never stops
Then one of them
Says some little thing
Maybe just a word or two
And whoosh
The window in your mind opens wide
And there it is
So clear now
It is a scene from your past
Crystal clear
Though you had not
Thought of that time in an age
Not forgotten that loved one
Never forgot them for a moment
But tucked them away for a while
Deep inside your heart
Your eyes prickle at the memory
Loving that person
Whose likeness you have conjured up
Held in a transparent sphere
That glows as if you see
Them in front of you
Their eyes locked on your own
Yet their image is inside you head
A movie show of their smile
You hold it for a while
And then it’s gone.
