Steve usually tries to be late
for movie dates because he simply hates the trailers. On the other hand, I like
to see the trailers and as we sit together in the darkness, the end of each
trailer will have a Roman arena style vote casting moment when, without a word
to each other we will each perform a ‘Thumbs up’ or a ‘Thumbs down’.
We had seen the trailer for ‘Allied’
starring Gods gift to cinema going women, Brad Pitt, who is playing Max Vatan opposite
the lovely Marion Cotillards beautifully named character Marianne Beausejour
in this story. When watching old movies on TV we will often remark that they
don’t make films like that any more, but on this occasion, oh yes they have. It
is a classic wartime movie in many ways and is an excellent thriller, it
certainly held my attention.
The story is well told and
the acquisitions department did a sterling job with the sets and the retro
costumes that it has to be said were perfectly modelled by this handsome pair
of lovelies. The scenes that would have simply ended with a kiss in genuine old
WW11 film’s, were much steamier in this production, though and I have to say
that I loved the love scene in the car during the sandstorm; that car was
rocking and not just from the storm. On the way out of the Windmill Cinema in
Littlehampton, Steve remarked that if he had been Angelina Jolie, he would have
divorced Brad himself if he had seen all that flesh tangled around her man!
We both enjoyed every aspect
of the film directed by Robert Zemekis. The 3pm afternoon performance was the
only possibility for Steve and I since all the other show times were late
evenings. At the box office I had asked for tickets for two ancient people and
was corrected to “Mature madam, please” by the mature cashier before being
shown to our seats by the mature usher and seated with the other mature cinegoers.
When one makes the effort to
go to the multiplex Cineworld in Chichester, they match the trailer to the film
you have bought tickets for and that saves us seeing too many trailers of
animated children’s films but still subjects us the Sci-fi that Steve hates and he has hated the trailer
for Passengers a little more each time he has seen it, and we have suffered it
an unbelievable amount of times, even at the Windmill.
We were still talking about
Allied as we did just an hour long turbo session first thing this morning. Life
is too short to go to rubbish movies. I can’t help my attitude… My Mum and Auntie
Bet were both usherettes, I saw everything that came to Worthing
cinemas and theatres; everything.
Movies that we are looking
forward to are ‘LA-LA Land’ that seems to be a musical with Ryan Gosling and
seems inviting, ‘Jackie’, portrayed perfectly by Natalie Portman who we so
loved in Black Swan and I urgently need to see ‘Manchester by the Sea’ with
Casey Affleck as soon as it comes around.
Churchill didn't like too much noise in the war offices
